Ubuntu 10.04 is Here
Written by Timothy Stewart

My favorite Linux distribution released a major upgrade today, Ubuntu 10.04 This release, Lucid Lynx, is buitd better, faster, and more personal than any release previous. And by the way, if you aren't familiar with Ubuntu Linux, runs on any PC, is easy to navigate, and it is absolutely free.
Ubuntu has made Linux personal, and that is easy to see in their latest release. This upgrade includes many of the applications you expect from any operating system: web browsing, email client, chat, photo editors, and a productivity suite. It is also has social networking built right in to the desktop with its new "Me" menu, which allows you to update your Facebook, Twitter, etc., accounts and even connect to their corresponding chat channels. They have even launched an Ubuntu One Music Store where they will give away 50% of the revenue to a charity of your choice. You can see most of the features here.
I currently run 3 flavors of Ubuntu. A dual boot on my PC of Widnows 7 and Ubuntu 64-bit desktop, Ubuntu Netbook Remix edition on my netbook, and this web site is built on Ubuntu 9.10 Server edition. All of my systems are going to get this upgrade as soon as I have some time to do it. If you are feeling ambitious, go ahead and try it yourself. A dual boot (Windows/Linux) is a lot easier than you think to set up. Or you can easily install it on a virtual machine and not touch your Windows installation using Virtual PC or Virtual Box, both of which are free. You can download Ubuntu 10.04 and see more at www.ubuntu.com.
